All-Star Notes: David Stern says Adam Silver should be next NBA commissioner

Orlando, Fla. ? NBA commissioner David Stern?s eventual retirement and deputy commissioner Adam Silver?s rise as his likely successor. The Kings? ability to stay in Sacramento; the Hornets? expected sale and long-term stability in New Orleans. "World-class palaces" the league has either already added or soon will in cities such as Orlando and Brooklyn, and the modern transformation of Madison Square Garden. That and more highlighted Stern?s annual All-Star weekend media interview Saturday at the Amway Center.

The commissioner still has not set a date for stepping down. But the 69-year-old Stern will have a discussion "very soon" with owners to inform them about the length of his remaining commitment to the league. In addition, Stern acknowledged he definitely won?t be in charge in six years, when owners and players can opt out of a collective bargaining agreement signed last December.

While Silver has long been the heir apparent to Stern, the commissioner moved his likely successor further into the spotlight Saturday.

"One of the things that a good CEO does ? and I try to be a good CEO ? is provide his board with a spectacular choice for its successor," Stern said. "And I think I?ve done that, and that?s Adam. ? If I were doing it myself, he would be the commissioner. But as I said before, the board will make that decision."

Stern then joked about intentionally trying to lower Silver?s future salary at the same time he listed the deputy commissioner?s virtues as a "first-rate, top-of-the-class executive."

"Not just sports executive," Stern said. "But if you wanted to be a little broader, you could see media and sports executive. If you wanted to go broader, you could go international."

As for the uncertain state of the Kings, Stern said several times "life is a negotiation" and ended his news conference smiling as he made the same statement.

Stern said the city of Sacramento and the Kings? owners have "stepped up," though, and he was even-keeled after a brief meeting Saturday with Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who has played a key role in the effort to keep the Kings.

Story continues below

"We all consider ourselves to have a March 1 deadline to either come up with a financing plan and a critical path to the construction of the [Kings? new] arena or not," Stern said.

If Sacramento?s plans fall through, Seattle has suddenly become a likely candidate for the Kings? potential relocation. Stern said it?s hard to envision the NBA soon returning to Seattle unless an existing franchise is ready to move.

"What I?m working hard to do, in a perverse kind of way from Seattle?s perspective, is to sell New Orleans to stay in New Orleans, and get a building for Sacramento that will enable the Kings to stay in Sacramento," Stern said. "I can?t say for sure it?s a pathway. But I will say that the only way to have a team these days is to have a world-class building."

Briefly

Stern said there is a lead group ready to soon buy the Hornets and keep the team in New Orleans. A second group is positioned as a fallback option. ? Stern said the NBA will not consider rewarding teams such as the Magic with a top-five NBA draft lottery pick if they lose All-Stars such as Dwight Howard to free agency and receive nothing in return. "We have a system that has a draft that basically tells a player where he?s going to play ? so that our players could play for seven years [with] the team they didn?t choose. And we think that?s a system, but not a prison," Stern said. ? The NBA is attempting to hold regular-season games in London next season and is in discussions about bringing preseason games to China.

The Importance Of Local Business Advertising | Die Lieben Kollegen

Local business advertising is very important when it comes to evolving your business. The local people need to spread the word about your business if it is going to grow. A cheap way to get the word out is with the people around you. One of the best ways to get this to happen is to use fliers to advertise.

You can make these fliers and print them on your home computer. You could also just go to a professional and have them do it. Spread these fliers to all of the local businesses in your town. Most establishments will gladly allow you to post fliers in their windows or on their walls.

Try making your fliers accessible for as many people as possible. Hand hand them out by going to a mall, or going door to door, or even handing them out to individual people as they walk by. The important thing to remember is that you need to get your name out for people to see.

Make sure you are thinking about your audience when you are planning your promotion. You need to be aware of the market you?re targeting. Some businesses who promote, tend to have very broad advertisements. Ads that don?t target any group specifically, don?t have the best effects.

This is due to the campaign not targeting anyone specifically. Most people won?t know what you are selling unless you tell them. Before you start your campaign, be sure to think about them.

Image is also very important. When starting a new business or promoting a current one, it is important to develop and maintain the right image. One of the reasons why several companies have been successful over the years is because they are able to create a brand that works for them.

These companies are successful because they?ve connected with their customers. A unique image helps customers bond with a company very quickly. Thoroughly plan out your campaign and come up with a good image.

You must be willing to invest the necessary money to market your company appropriately. Some companies don?t invest the money they should because they think it may not work. If you have a plan that you truly believe will work, you should take a chance an risk investing the money needed for it to be as good as it can.

Try your best to hand out as many fliers as you can to as many people as possible. Being aware of your audience is essential when planning out your promotions. Last but not least, make sure you spend enough money on your ads and be sure you are promoting the image you want.

Local business advertising can be a difficult task. Not having a plan for getting the word out can make it really hard. One of the best ways of doing this is with fliers and company cards with your website and additional contact information on it.

Participating in a local business marketing service provides business owners with the ability to reach a wider target audience more easily.

Sarah Shahi Teases Fairly Legal Love Triangle for Season 2

Ever since USA Network?s Fairly Legal added Aussie Ryan Johnson to the cast for Season 2 ? as a ?sharp trial attorney/potential romantic interest for Kate? ? the question from fans has been: What does this mean for Kate and her semi-estranged husband Justin (played by Michael Trucco)?

What it means is ?a lot of trouble,? series star Sarah Shahi told me at a recent NBC soiree. ?Yeah? Justin?s not going to have some very happy times.?

Exclusive: USA?s Fairly Legal Serves Up a Savory Helping of Meat Loaf

Johnson?s (accent-free) character, Ben Grogan, is recruited by managing partner Lauren to save Reed & Reed, which as Season 2 picks up is on the verge of collapse. And while Ben?s scrappy, ambulance-chasing ways make Kate more than bristle, there will be sexual tension.

?Ben is competition, and eventually we are building to a delicious love triangle,? Shahi notes. As such, she jokes, ?Trucco is going to have to kick up his game ? and he does, he totally does. He brings it. But we?ll see if it?s good enough.?

Especially since, as an added wrinkle, a new hunk in town isn?t the only curve ball about to the thrown at the not-quite-exes-with-benefits.

?We learn something about Justin that we didn?t know before and that Kate is not happy with,? Shahi shares with a wink. ?That?s all I?m going to say!?

Fairly Legal Season 2 Guest Stars Include Desperate Housewives Vet and FlashForward Alum

Fairly Legal premieres Season 2 on Friday, March 16, at 9/8c (leading into In Plain Sight?s final season).

What Are The Most Common Questions That Arise In Personal Injury ...

When an accident happens between two or more people, the general belief amongst most people is that the person that caused the accident will compensate the other parties in the accident for their damages. However, what naturally tends to happen is that rather then one person taking responsibility for their accident neither party involved will take responsibility. They will try and blame who ever else was also in their accident. Personal injury lawyers receive a plethora of questions from their clients, some of which tend to be extremely common. Here is a look at a few of the most common questions clients have for their lawyers. The three most common questions any personal injury lawyer will receive are: What type of accident can I sue for? How much compensation should I ask for? How will I pay you for your services. Today we?ll aim to answer all three questions.

Slip fall is the legal term used to describe when a person is forced to the ground because of someone else?s negligence. For example, in the winter time, many people will be walking their dog?s and feel their feet swept out from under them, as a result of black ice on the sidewalk or simply walking across someone?s driveway which has not been maintained. When this happens, you may be entitled to compensation. Because the person, store or municipality responsible for the sidewalk where your accident took place, owed you a duty of care to assure you weren?t forced to the ground. Owners have a responsibility to take care of their property for public safety. If you are injured in a slip fall accident, the damages could be life altering.

When it comes to filing for compensation, the general formula used by the personal injury lawyer, takes into account all of your damages, how much your insurance company covers and the remaining monetary value for your injuries. For example, the insurance of the accident victim is required to pay the accident benefits for their client. For all intents and purposes, the accident benefits take into account, the damages to your property, the injuries you have sustained, emotional trauma, medical rehabilitation costs and income replacement benefits.

The insurance has to provide their client up to $50,000 in accident benefits. If it is determined that your accident was worth $150,000, you and your personal injury lawyer will then file a lawsuit worth $100,000 against the defendant, because those are the remaining costs on your accident. Under some provincial laws, you can?t file for $150,000 because the insurance company already compensated part of your benefits.

Another important factor to take into account is how long you have to sue. We mentioned above that you have seven days to file a notice stating that you will file a claim for your injuries. However, as of 2004, you have up to two years to file the actual claim against the party responsible for your accident. Yet, if your slip fall accident took place prior to 2004, you would then have had six years to file your actual claim against the negligent party. These are some examples of why it is very important to have an experienced and knowledgeable personal injury lawyer that specialized in your needs as part of your team.

Searching for the best personal injury lawyers Toronto legal team? Then be sure to visit Personal Injury Lawyers in Toronto and find out how these expert injury and car accident lawyer Toronto will fight to make sure your claim is significant and what you are fully entitled too.

'Happy Endings': The Gang Needs Brad And Jane To Fight And Usher In Spring (VIDEO)

"Happy Endings" (Wed., 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC) introduced a rather unusual annual tradition the gang has been enjoying for years. Well, most of them have been enjoying it. So much so that they apparently go out of their way to make t-shirts, and consider it the official beginning of spring. The "it" in question is a huge blow-out fight between Brad and Jane.

The problem this year was that Brad and Jane simply weren't fighting. Every time the gang thought something was going to set them off, they instead managed to brush it off like it was no big thing. But realizing that for whatever reason this was something their friends needed, Brad and Jane decided to fake the sixth "Spring Smackdown" for their benefit.

But the fake fight, and fake getting away from one another into the arms of their friends, just didn't sit right with anyone. It still didn't feel like spring was coming. Luckily, an open patio door led to a real fight. But this time, rather than simply sitting back and enjoying the fight, the gang came together to instead help the couple realize the silliness of it and instead make up. Maybe they'd all grown up a little bit this year.

Special shout-out to "Bear Max." It was a bit abrupt, and seemingly out of character considering he'd just recently started a serious relationship that was developing nicely, but it was so funny it was almost forgivable. For the transformation into Pooh Bear alone, just go with it for the laughs.

Watch "Happy Endings" every Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC.

Pampered Pets - Online Cat Supplies

People who are owned by their cats understand the magnitude of shopping for kittens and cats where anything can be found related to felines. Whilst there are most likely many local pet stores to shop at, these stores are geared towards serving a broad range of pet so there will obviously be a small selection for each species. Consequently, cat owners are increasingly searching for sources of cat supplies online where everything is in one place and priced affordably. As a matter of fact, when ordering more than ?50, some online pet suppliers may also offer free speedy shipping.

When it comes to cat supplies there are a number of different categories in which to find the perfect product. Most people think of cat supplies as being simply grouped by foods, litter boxes/accessories and perhaps toys. There are so many other types of cat products on the market which aren?t readily available in local pet shops because of lack of space. From grooming products to feline medical supplies, online stores offer a much wider selection. Instead of having one or two cat scratchers, for example, there is a whole line of scratchers from designer products to simple pedestals which fit any budget large or small.

There are numerous other cat toys available but where many people tend to land is on cat bedding products because cats tend to sleep by day and prowl by night. With any number of fashionable cat beds on the market, kitty has a comfy place to snooze that also complements the d?cor of any room. From soft and comfy cat beds to warm and cuddly cat blankets, there is sure to be something for every cat under the sun, no matter how pernickety. Some cats choose to sleep out in the open whilst others want somewhere dark and private. This is not a problem because cat beds come in a wide range of heights, fabrics and sizes.

When browsing though the onlineforpets.co.uk website, many cat lovers are amazed at the broad selection of cat supplies available. There are actually nine product categories available from beds to grooming products which simply are not available in local stores. Toys, carriers, hammocks, scratchers, play bags, blankets and cat collars are also available and nowhere is there such a large selection on just one site. With top manufacturers such as Gor Pets, Nina Ottosson, Kong, Company of Animals and Pet Head being represented, there is something to delight every cat at prices its owner can afford.

When it comes to being boss, cats will instantly inform you who is the head of the family as they are undoubtedly amongst the most clever and extremely independent. After being trained by a cat it is readily apparent what its likes and dislikes are, without a doubt. When searching for what your cat will most likely want, it is only a matter of finding the right pet supplier. What point is there in being owned by your cat if you can?t give that little dictator its favourite toys? Remember that a cat views your furniture in much the same way as a cat scratcher which is why it may be in your best interest to cater to its feline instincts. When shopping online for pets it is possible to find almost anything feline and this is very good because it will delight your cat and provide a real boon for you.

Would Obama's corporate tax cut speed the recovery? (The Week)

[unable to retrieve full-text content]The Week - The proposal would doom the recovery: "This is a terrible, terrible plan," says James Pethokoukis at The American. The stagnant economic recovery is already "arguably the worst in modern American history," and instead of giving corporate America a hand, Obama now wants to saddle companies with so-called reform that would "actually raise the tax burden on American business by $250 billion over a decade." That would make us less competitive than ever, and doom our chances of bouncing back anytime soon."Why Obama's corporate tax plan is a total bust"

Cloud Music Sniper brings your Google Music library to any music player

Android Central

There is absolutely no doubt that Google Music is a fantastic service to have, if slightly limiting at times. The music stored in your cloud locker is only ever available to the official Google Music app which is frustrating for some. Oh for a world where Poweramp or Winamp could access all that music. Well that world is now, and Cloud Music Sniper can bring your music to your chosen music app.

The previous incarnation was known as Google Music Sniper, but was suspended due to its name. The new version requires no root, and works by 'sniping' your offline synced music content and storing it in a new directory. This directory is then available to your alternative music player. The music is actually available to be taken off your device and used on your desktop computer. To the user it is as simple as firing up the app and following some on screen instructions.

Cloud Music Sniper is still in the early stages, and the developers are known for constantly updating their apps, so there should be plenty more to come. If this sounds like something for you, it'll run you for $1.99/£1.26 in the Android Market. Download links can be found after the break.

Android 5.0: connecting the mobile-desktop dots (Appolicious)

The main goal behind Android 4.0 was to combine the best of the smartphone and tablet. With Android 5.0 Jelly Bean, Google may be looking to combine the best of mobile and desktops. Speculation on Jelly Bean is running high, but with each emerging rumor it appears Android?s next version has a very connected future. A week after suppliers first hinted at Jelly Bean?s arrival this summer, Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin claims Android 5.0 will come with a dockable desktop mode. That means Android, its apps and services would run seamlessly on smartphones, tablets and desktops.

What?s Motorola?s role in Android 5.0?

In reality, this could mean Android 5.0 will integrate with Motorola?s Webtop platform, currently used in devices like the Motorola Atrix to connect a laptop attachment to your smartphone in order to run apps on a larger screen. Webtop is a proprietary interface from Motorola, and the phone-to-laptop connection is nothing new for Android. A handful of business-oriented smartphones have launched with optional laptop attachments and stylus pens, merging the perks of our favorite devices for mobile use. What would make Jelly Bean different, however, is extended this into the software realm. It?s not enough to simply enlarge the Android experience, it needs to have built-in support for seamless interaction across more devices.

The pending acquisition of Motorola Mobility adds credence to the latest Jelly Bean rumors, especially poignant now that Motorola is waiting until the second quarter to update most of its devices. The question remains whether or not Android 5.0 could ultimately overshadow Ice Cream Sandwich, the most current version of Android that?s had a rough go at implementation across partner devices. Android 5.0 may not be any better from an integration standpoint, though it addresses Google?s need to expand Android?s reach across more devices.

Sound familiar? Google also has Chrome

Much of what Android 5.0 is looking to do sounds quite similar to initiatives already put forth by Google?s Chrome project, from an OS and browser standpoint. Chrome has already been placed on netbooks, and was most recently launched in beta for Android 4.0 devices. Chrome should?ve gone mobile long ago, and as a gateway to various Google Apps, Chrome has become one of Google?s top priorities for ad monetization and user acquisition. Chrome head Sundar Pichai reveals his company?s big dreams for Chrome, including deeper integration with Android, saying they?re ?going to take leaps and bounds? within the year.

Dental care Pertaining to Smaller Farm pets

Appropriate typical dentistry is very important for those race horses in spite of get older measurement or make use of, the same as it is throughout humans. The benefits furnished by suitable dentistry incorporate being able to increase the FCR or Nourish transformation proportion. Basically, therefore the actual equine is getting the absolute maximum utilize the feed it is consuming. This is accomplished via maintaining a standard eating period through the removing discomfort, stopping along with correcting abnormalities conducive for you to dropping associated with feed, along with making sure that the actual equine can easily mill the feed for an proper fibers period.Dogs That is crucial if the food is to be effectively assimilated within the intestine; significant fibres are certainly not effectively assimilated along with considerable amounts of fibres inside your horse?s feces using period higher after that 25mm implies an issue with that race horses mincing potential.

The other advantage of suitable dentistry will be effective in keeping the equine clear of dentistry discomfort. Folks who?ve had the ulcer within the mouth area, the tooth cavity or shattered the teeth, understand how painful it is.

(AP) ? Dereck Chisora apologized "wholeheartedly" Monday for the brawl with David Haye that followed his loss to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.

Haye blamed Chisora for the clash that followed his fellow Londoner's defeat in Munich and the beaten challenger has acknowledged that the violence at the post-bout news conference marred the biggest night of his career.

"Whilst my behavior was inexcusable, there were many things that went on behind the scenes that ultimately caused my frustrations to boil over," Chisora said. "Despite all of this, the bottom line is I have let my family, my team and ? worst of all ? the sport I love down.

"I acknowledge that my actions were totally unprofessional, with or without provocation. Now, with a cool head and the benefit of hindsight, my actions at the weekend were regrettable to say the least and I am deeply embarrassed."

Chisora, who was questioned for seven hours by German police and is being investigated by the British Boxing Board of Control over the incident, did not say what provoked him to descend from the top table and confront Haye.

Former WBA champion Haye had been at the news conference trying to taunt Klitschko into agreeing to a bout later this year. Haye also waved three fingers at Chisora, indicating that his compatriot had just suffered the third loss of his 18-fight professional career.

"I cannot go into the specific details at the moment as, quite rightly, the British Boxing Board of Control will be investigating this matter," said Chisora, adding that he was struck by a bottle during the brawl.

"I have a duty as a professional boxer to conduct myself properly at all times, especially with boxing being a sport of controlled aggression. I have let lots of people down on Saturday night, including myself, and for that I am truly sorry."

German police released Chisora without charge and want to speak to Haye, who left the country before being apprehended but released a statement Monday in which he alleged that Chisora and his entourage were wholly to blame.

"Chisora climbed down from the top table, removed his robe and then walked towards me, entourage in tow, in an aggressive manner," Haye said. "I held my ground, but unfortunately he caused a serious disturbance to occur, something which threatened to damage the reputation of the sport we both love."

Haye said he was at the bout as a commentator and had only become involved in the news conference dialogue by Klitschko's manager, Bernd Boente.

"(I) have been thinking about what happened ever since, as well as replaying the incident many times via YouTube," Haye said. "I am bitterly disappointed to have been a part of what transpired on Saturday evening.

"I realize I am no angel and don't mind a bit of professional trash-talk to help raise boxing's profile, but during my 21 years in the sport I have never been involved in or even witnessed such a serious fracas."

Boente told Sky Sports News that he had turned down a request from Haye's camp for ringside seats and that his fighter was not interested in being part of a comeback by Haye.

Chisora will appear before British boxing's governing body on a misconduct charge Wednesday but the BBBC cannot take action against Haye because the Londoner retired last year after a defeat to Klitschko's younger brother, Wladimir.

Haye has since decided he wants to return to the ring to fight Vitali Klitschko but would need to apply to the BBBC for a license.

Chisora slapped Klitschko at Friday's weigh-in and spat water in the face of Wladimir Klitschko before the fight.

The body is looking into his behavior "prior, during and after his contest," BBBC General Secretary Robert Smith said in a statement. "A further statement will be issued once the stewards have decided on what action will be taken."

Chisora taunted Haye about losing the WBA belt to Wladimir Klitschko in July, leading to a heated exchange before the pair came to blows. Haye also fought with members of Chisora's entourage, and his coach, Adam Booth, was bleeding from a cut on his head.

Booth said Monday he did not know what he had been hit with.

He told Sky Sports News that Haye would be "more than happy" to speak to German police if contacted and denied rumors that the brawl had been staged as a publicity stunt.

"I didn't get that memo," Booth said. "If I did, I might have ducked."

Haye said he would assist the BBBC but did not say whether he would return to Munich to speak to police.

Chisora faces a possible charge of simple assault in Germany. His coach, Don Charles, also faces a charge of assault for his involvement in the melee. The pair have returned to England.

Munich police spokesman Werner Kraus said several legal obstacles need to be resolved before a warrant could be issued for Haye's arrest.

"The criminal police are still investigating. If they decide to take it further, they will have to present the case to the state prosecutor for review," Kraus said. "Eventually the state prosecutor could decide to ask, in this case the British police, for help.

"But ultimately only the state prosecutor can make that decision."

Haye could face charges of simple assault and grievous bodily harm.

A conviction for assault carries a possible prison term of up to five years, while grievous bodily harm could lead to a 10-year sentence.

Wladimir Klitschko said Monday he was "shocked and deeply embarrassed" by Chisora and his team.

He said "these kinds of actions ... must be stopped, otherwise the sport of boxing is going to go down the hill fast."

Ringling Brothers Bullhook Use Will Not Be Blocked In Atlanta Despite Local Ban

From Mother Nature Network's Laura Moss:

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be allowed to use bullhooks on elephants during its performances in Atlanta this week despite a countywide ban on the devices.

Bullhooks are tools with long handles and a sharp hook at one end that allows trainers to apply varying degrees of pressure to sensitive spots on an elephant?s body. Circuses say the tools are necessary for the safe handling of elephants, but critics say bullhooks are harmful to the animals.

In June, Fulton County commissioners voted for a ban on the controversial devices, becoming the first Georgia jurisdiction to do so, but on Tuesday, Feb. 14, a Fulton County Superior Court Judge issued an order that temporarily overrode the ban.

In his order, Fulton County Superior Court Judge John Goger said the city of Atlanta had not adopted an elephant ordinance of its own. He also said there is no intergovernmental agreement between the county and the city for animal control services, which enforces the ban.

However, Fulton County Commissioner Robb Pitts says the city has been paying for and using those county services.?? "It says to me even in the absence of a signed document there is an implied agreement and therefore we have the right to enforce this provision in the city of Atlanta," he told The Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Pitts says he supports the bullhook ban because he believes the tools are harmful to elephants.

Steven Payne, a spokesman for Feld Entertainment, the parent company for Ringling Brothers, says that the bullhook is simply ?an extension of the handler?s hand? and that it is ?an invaluable tool in the humane and safe handling of elephants.? He also said that without the use of bullhooks, Ringling Brothers would have canceled its Atlanta tour, which began on Wednesday at Phillips Arena.

Animal rights group People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals staged a protest outside the arena on Wednesday with a large inflatable elephant wearing a sign that read, "Step Right Up! See shackles, bullhooks, and loneliness at the circus."

Fulton County officials are considering citing circus workers for cruelty to animals if there is evidence of abuse, animal control official Tony Phillips told the AJC on Wednesday.

Mizzou F Ricardo Ratliffe chasing NCAA FG record

One game when the shots refused to fall, and now Ricardo Ratliffe is playing catchup against a 31-year-old record.
???? The 6-foot-8 Ratliffe is the lone inside threat for No. 3 Missouri, which has ridden a four-guard attack to surprise elite status under new coach Frank Haith. For most of the season, he's been a can't-miss option.
???? Ratliffe, who takes most of his shots within arm's reach of the rim, has for most of the season been ahead of the NCAA single-season field goal shooting record set in 1980-81 by Oregon State's Steve Johnson (74.6 percent).
???? Ratliffe is still the national leader by a wide margin at 73.7 percent. But last week's game against then-No. 6 Baylor put him on the outside looking in. The Bears concentrated on taking Ratliffe out of the equation after getting burned in the first meeting and got beat by a rain of 14 3-pointers instead. Ratliffe, however, entered the game at 75.1 percent and wound up just 3 for 9 with six points against a front line that goes 6-11, 6-9 and 6-9.
???? "It wasn't frustrating because I was worried about a percentage," Ratliffe said. "I just didn't think I played as well I could have. But we've got so many great players that we're still able to win even though just one guy may not be on his 'A' game."
???? Of course, he is all too aware of this game within the game.
???? "Yeah, I mean when you hear about it every five minutes, then it's just like engraved in you," Ratliffe said Monday. "So you think about it all the time."
???? Missouri (23-2, 10-2 Big 12) has a shot at winning the conference in its final season before moving to the SEC, entering Wednesday night's home game against Oklahoma State (12-13, 5-7) a half-game behind first-place Kansas.
???? Ratliffe has been a big reason, even if he is somewhat under the radar. The 240-pound Ratliffe rarely dunks, often throws in a pump fake or two before releasing and doesn't have a reel full of crowd-pleasing blocks, either.
???? But he sure knows how to convert all those entry passes from flashy point guard Phil Pressey and the rest.
???? "It's like a great marriage," Haith said. "I don't know that Ricardo would have his great play without good guards and I don't know if our guards would be as good as they are if we didn't have a low post presence."
???? Ratliffe, the former junior college player of the year at Central Florida Community College, gets plenty of good looks right on top of the basket because the Tigers have so many ball handlers who are equally comfortable launching the 3-pointer or driving the lane. Pressey is among the conference leaders with 5.8 assists per game, Michael Dixon averages three assists and Marcus Denmon, who leads Missouri with an 18-point average, chips in 2.4 assists.
???? "Whenever I've got a good big buy that can score, I try to give him the ball as much as possible to keep him happy," Pressey said. "He's at the right place always at the right time. I just try to find him."
???? Missouri averages eight 3-pointers and is hitting at a 39-percent clip. That buys valuable space inside.
???? Ratliffe has just 55 missed shots in 209 attempts with three perfect games, going 6 for 6 against Oklahoma, 7 for 7 against Binghamton and 8 for 8 against Villanova. He was 10 for 11 against Northwestern State, too, and then the truly impressive stats, given the competition:10 for 12 against Texas and 11 for 14 in the first Baylor meeting.
???? "Ricardo is our horse down low," teammate Kim English said. "He sets the tone on the glass, and that's big for us."
???? The only other stinker came against Mercer, when Ratliffe was just 1-for-6.
???? Far from a one-trick pony, Ratliffe leads Missouri with 6.8 rebounds per game. He and English are tied for second in scoring at 14.0 points.
???? Plus, he gets praise from his coach for eliminating concentration lapses that used to bog down his game and for running the floor "as well as any big man in the country."
???? "He's been able to say 'next play,' and that's a huge improvement for Ricardo," Haith said. "We don't have success if we don't have Ricardo's play."

Asia shops for aircraft, arms under China's shadow (Reuters)

SINGAPORE (Reuters) ? Asian nations shopped for aircraft and military hardware at the region's biggest aerospace and weapons bazaar on Tuesday as a new report said China's defense spending would exceed the combined spending of all major countries in the region within three years.

Aircraft and weapons manufacturers, military officers, arms dealers and airline executives rubbed shoulders as the 2012 Singapore Airshow kicked off in a vast hangar near the city-state's Changi airport.

Deals worth about $10 billion were announced at the last show in 2010 and the number could well be higher this year as Asian nations ramp up defense spending.

Among the early deals announced on Tuesday was an order given to Raytheon Corp (RTN.N) by Boeing Co (BA.N) for advanced radar systems on eight of its P-81 anti-submarine and anti-surface surveillance aircraft being sold to the Indian navy.

India signed a $2.1 billion deal with Boeing for eight P-81 planes in 2009, according to media reports. The first of the aircraft is scheduled to be delivered to India this year.

On the civilian side, Boeing signed its largest ever order for commercial aircraft, a $22.4 billion deal with Indonesia's Lion Air. The deal was originally announced in November.

Boeing said Lion Air, Indonesia's largest carrier by passenger volume, has ordered 230 airplanes, including 201 737 MAXs and 29 next-generation 737-900 ERs. Lion Air will also acquire purchase rights for an additional 150 airplanes, Boeing said.

CHINA CONCERNS DRIVE SPENDING

IHS Jane's said in a report that while all major Asian nations are forecast to increase spending on defense, China's military budget will soar to $238.20 billion by 2015 from $119.80 billion last year, growing about 18.75 percent per annum.

That number will exceed spending by all other nations in the region combined, but compares with a base U.S. defense budget of $525.40 billion for 2013.

In Asia, Japan and India follow China in defense spending, but both may be constrained in coming years while China is likely to steam ahead, underpinned by strong economic growth, analysts said.

"Japan's government debt and the investment needed after Fukushima will impact defense spend. We will increasingly see budget channeled towards key programs and equipment," said Rajiv Biswas, chief economist in the Asia-Pacific for IHS Global Insight.

"India's government debt and fiscal deficit is very high as a share of GDP, and the rupee depreciated significantly in 2011, all of which will limit India's defense ambitions."

Nevertheless, Japan's defense budget is forecast to rise to $66.60 billion by 2015 from $60.30 billion last year. India's military expenditure is likely to be $44.90 billion in 2015 from $35.40 billion in 2011.

"China's rise is not the only motivator," said Paul Burton at IHS Jane's. "There are a number of lingering security issues, driven by competition for untapped natural resources, that are prompting many states to increase their defense to GDP ratio."

China itself prefers to indigenously build almost all its military requirements, but it is hawking its planes and weapons at the show as well. Considerable interest at the show's CATIC pavilion was shown in China's Harrier 1 unmanned surveillance aircraft and the JF-17 fighter jet built in collaboration with Pakistan.

CATIC, or China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corp, is the country's biggest company for the trade of aviation and defense products.

EU CARBON CONTROVERSY

Europe's carbon emissions scheme and by defects plaguing the Airbus A-380 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner are other issues likely to dominate the show.

The EU's Emissions Trading Scheme, introduced on January 1, has drawn howls of protest from airlines around the world, with China banning its carriers from taking part.

Europe's plan to charge airlines for carbon emissions could trigger a full-blown trade war with implications for plane deals and Europe's crippling sovereign debt crisis.

Meanwhile, the discovery of hairline cracks on part of the frame inside A380 wings several weeks ago has embarrassed its maker, Airbus Industries, a unit of EADS (EAD.PA). European safety authorities last week extended inspections for similar cracks to the entire fleet.

Airbus and operators say there is no risk to safety, but German magazine Der Spiegel said the problem could cost Airbus 100 million euros ($132 million).

Boeing (BA.N) has said it has found a problem with the 787's fuselage, but has said the "incorrect shimming" is easily fixed and will not affect production schedules. Shims are used to close tiny gaps in joints.

Suspects in teacher kidnapping returned to Mont. (AP)

SIDNEY, Mont. ? Two men charged in the kidnapping of a high school math teacher were extradited Tuesday to Montana, where they appeared in court less than a mile from where Sherry Arnold disappeared during her morning run.

Sidney City Judge Gregory Mohr told Lester Van Waters, 47, and Michael Spell, 22, that they could face the death penalty if convicted of aggravated kidnapping. The judge set a Feb. 28 appearance in Montana district court.

Arnold's body has not been found, and authorities have released few details about what they believe happened to her. But more than five weeks after her disappearance, Arnold's mother said the family has been told enough by authorities that relatives no longer hold much hope she is alive.

Sharon Whited said it "would be a miracle" for her daughter to have survived.

"We've just come to the conclusion she's probably not (alive)," Whited said. "Yesterday was Sherry's birthday. That was a rough day. She would have been 44."

Arnold was last seen leaving home for a run at about 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 7. Investigators later recovered one of her running shoes along her route. They have since asked property owners in rural parts of eastern Montana and western North Dakota to look for signs of disturbed soil that could point to where her body is buried.

Spell and Waters are listed as residents of Parachute, Colo., although Waters spent most of his life in Florida, where he had an extensive criminal record and spent time in state prison.

Both are charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping. Judge Mohr ordered them held at the Richland County jail on $2.5 million bail each.

The defendants had been held in Williston, N.D. ? about 45 miles from Sidney ? since their arrest last month. They had challenged their extradition, but North Dakota District Judge David Nelson ordered their return to Montana during a brief court hearing Tuesday morning.

Waters and Spell appeared in court in shackles and black and gray prison garb. They stared at the floor and said nothing as their attorneys argued there was insufficient cause to extradite them and authorities lacked enough information to prove their identities.

Neither Waters nor Spell claimed to be someone else. Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer had requested their extradition last week.

Nelson, who has been a North Dakota district judge for 18 years, said Tuesday's hearings were the first contested extraditions he had handled. He normally hears two extraditions a week, he said.

Sidney residents said Tuesday that they wanted Waters and Spell returned to face prosecution in the town of about 5,000 people. Arnold grew up on a nearby ranch, taught at Sidney High School for 18 years and was well-known in the community for the patience and caring she showed her students.

"Whenever you needed help, she was there to help and she'd help you until you got it," said Chris Knels, 18, a former student of Arnold's. "She was really nice. Everyone liked her."

Knels and others said the kidnapping deeply affected Sidney, which already was struggling to deal with an influx of workers lured to eastern Montana and western North Dakota by the drilling boom in the surrounding Bakken oil fields.

Residents said the changes to their community brought on by the rapid pace of energy development came into sharp focus with Arnold's disappearance ? although it remains unclear whether Waters and Spell had a connection to the oil industry.

"People are more aware of their surroundings now," said 62-year-old Renee Gross, director of the city and county library. Gross said her three children had Arnold as a teacher.

"Safety is at the front of people's minds now and not at the back of their minds," she said.

Speculation about what happened to Arnold has been rampant.

But Matt Pavelich with the state public defender's office, which has been appointed to represent Spell and Waters, said Tuesday that the defense had been given little to work with so far.

"One of the things we're fighting is there's far more speculation than solid information available and it creates a pretty difficult environment to work in," Pavelich said. "We probably have less information than the folks at the coffee shop."

Mike Weber, the Richland County prosecutor, said Tuesday he doesn't expect charging documents in the case to be filed until later in the week. Those are expected to provide more details on what role authorities believe Spell and Waters played in Arnold's disappearance.

Ivana B. Skinny Cocktail Flavored Wine Drinks: A Review ? Food Junk

You know how it is ladies.? Sometimes you just wanna put on your sexiest dress, don your best novelty-sized shoulder flower or tiny askew top hat, and head to the hippest new bar with your girlfriends to make penis puns and sing off-key, inside joke songs very loudly.? We?ve all been there.? But if you?re like me, you know that Appletini is going straight to your thighs!? So instead, you decide to stay home alone drink low calorie wine coolers, watch The Notebook, and cry softly to yourself until you fall asleep in a melted pool of uneaten Chunky Monkey.? A girl?s gotta do what a girl?s? (quiet sobbing).

Ivana B. Skinny is a line of wine-based, cocktail flavored beverages marketed to the tacky, health conscious, female alcoholic. Each 5-ounce serving contains 100 calories and each variety has a 10% alcohol content. The line consists of three flavors: Appletini, Margarita, and Cosmopolitan.? Well done, reducing all of womankind to romantic comedy clich?s.

Each drink comes in a gaudy, Trump-esque gold tumbler.? Nothing screams sexy and thin like a short, squat bottle.? It is possibly the ugliest packaging design and worst product name I have ever encountered.

This product makes absolutely no sense to me. Who is so devoted to their favorite cocktail that they need to buy a knockoff version of it to drink at home?? And if you are that person, are you bothering to count calories, or do your withdrawal shakes prevent you from reading the nutritional label easily?

Marketing gimmickry aside, these are just diet wine coolers.? The miracle of packing so few calories into each serving is just sucralose.? The same miracle compound in every diet drink everywhere.? And with that, the ever present, lingering sucralose aftertaste.

Now I have never had an Appletini or a Cosmopolitan, what with being a male and all, so I can?t speak as to the fidelity of the flavors here.? The Appletini variety tastes like green apple Jolly Ranchers.? It doesn?t pack the sour punch that a Pucker would, but its overall sweetness does a good job of covering up the alcohol burn.? It is hardly detectable.

The Cosmo packs more of a punch.? It tastes like alcohol, and comes with a slight, shudder-inducing tartness.? I don?t think there are cranberry Jolly Ranchers, but I imagine this taste would be pretty close.

Ivana B. Skinny?s laughable website is packed with starved-looking young models, but I think their real demographic is a little different.? I picture a woman in her late fifties or early sixties.? She?s thin, tanned, of average height, and has clearly had her hair colored, possibly as recently as that morning.? She?s wearing white pants.? She?s wearing a shirt that is probably an animal print and definitely has some shiny gold fabric weaved throughout.? It plunges just a little too low.? She?s wearing many gold bangle bracelets on each wrist.? Around her neck is one of those long gold chain necklaces with giant circles every 12 inches or so.? It hangs down to her naveal. ?Also, from her shoulder dangles some oversized, gaudy handbag. She?s sporting backless, open-toed shoes, proudly displaying her boney, vein-riddled, old lady feet for all of the soon-to-be-nauseated world to see.? She?s my middle school librarian, or every third woman that age in the state of Florida. ?And the rings!? Oh, the rings!

If you vana be skinny, how about a little exercise?? Or perhaps 8 fewer Cosmos?? Or maybe just have a cheat night and drink all you want? ?You deserve it.? ?Just be sure it doesn?t turn into that kind of cheat night! ?Am I right ladies?!

An Overview Of The Katadyn Hiker Pro ? All About Everything

A water filter for backpacking, camping and hiking trips, the Katadyn Hiker Pro is an alternative to chemicals and other older methods. It has a changeable filter that requires no tools, so that it can be done in the back country, and is generally well liked by users.

Chemicals are the traditional way to deal with the issue of contaminated back country water. Usually iodine, these tablets are dissolved in water to make it safe to drink. They are small and easy to use, and many hikers and backpackers swear by them. However, they do leave a noticeable, unpleasant taste.

Water filters have come a long way in the last 20 years. For a long time, it wasn?t possible to create one that was small enough to carry with you, and could filter out the desired contaminants. Output speed was a problem, too, because of the tiny size holes required for the filter to remove bacteria and protozoa.

The Katadyn Hiker Pro is an effective tool for backpackers and hikers which helps them avoid water ?purification? tablets. Instead, they can drink clean, fresh-tasting water while enjoying the outdoors. Most people who have gone from tablets to a filter are pleasantly surprised at the change, and many swear that they will never go back.

Filters are rated by how small a particle has to be to get through it. This filter is rated down to 0.3 microns, which removes most bacteria and protozoa, including ones that most commonly cause problems in the back county, such as giardia and salmonella. A pre-filter removes larger debris, which lengthens the lifespan of the functional, smaller filter.

Because it is going to be carried into the back country, it is important that your water filter be light. This filter weighs an ultra-light 11 ounces and has an output of 1 liter per minute. It can even be hooked up directly to the drinking apparatus of your water pack, so that you can drink as it filters.

Reviews of this product are mostly good. It does have a two-hose system that some people have found troublesome when the water source is difficult to reach. It apparently produces a very high quality taste in the water that goes through it, and is light enough for most. When using a filter during a backpacking trip, it is always good to carry emergency water treatment tablets.

If you do a lot of wilderness travel and want the best field water filters, the Katadyn Pocket Filter is your answer. The Katadyn Hiker Pro is its cheaper cousin which will also protect you from unsafe drinking water.

97% The Artist

Full disclosure: I finally caught up with this picture after months of hearing critics and fans alike heap their seemingly boundless praise upon it. Eager as I was to be the contrarian, the film did not warrant my scorn.First off, the acting was stellar by the entire cast. Especially Dujardin, who is an absolute delight to watch. He is animated and alluring, without being too over the top.Secondly, with the overall silent film style aside (e.g., black and white, 22 fps, title cards, 4:3 aspect ratio), there were some very creative moments where Hazanavicius utilizes sound and layering to great effect. His knack for visual storytelling really shines through in many key scenes and makes for constant entertainment. However, although impressively told, I found the story to be a little thin. I mean, I understand the basic premise, "In a world saturated with sound, a silent film star struggles to find his voice", but so what? Why do I care about him finding his voice in any way? Very little light is shed on the main character's motivations other than he desperately wants to be a star. For a film brimming with so many "emotional" moments, I surprisingly felt little, good or bad, for any of the characters on screen. While I love the style, I need a little substance to make it more than just a spectacle. However, a lot of this is just a knee-jerk reaction to the aforementioned excessive praise it has received. I truly did get caught up in the nostalgia for this bygone era. The opening scene alone made me long for a time when going to the theater was an event as opposed to another dark room where people carry on their lascivious smart-phone activities. When all is said and done, this film is most definitely worth a watch. But one cannot easily shake the feeling that Hazanavicius missed one hell of an opportunity to make an extraordinary film.

Managing Pain

?

Pain is a common health problem, which afflicts 50% of people around the world at any given time. However, even though acute and chronic pain can both be debilitating, chronic pain is one of the major causes of mental and physical?disability, commonly misdiagnosed and inappropriately treated.

Pain sufferers frequently feel frustrated and depressed and consider their lives as an endless misery.

Pain is an unpleasant, emotional, and sensory experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage.

Pain is not a just a mere perception or a one-dimensional entity but a multidimensional complex problem with many attributes. Acute and chronic pain can happen to any person of any age or gender.

Chronic pain is a multifaceted medical problem that affects all aspects of a person?s life. Patient involvement and education are important components of a pain management program.

We know that there are physiological shifts in chemicals that bring about some changes in the nervous system and the brain. This in turn leads to changes in the neurotransmitters that perpetuate the pain. We feel in some ways that the nervous system can only generate pain instead of the usual mixture of discomfort and pleasure. And we are not really sure why this happens to some people and not to others, although, we know for sure that emotions and stress play a role in this.

Most experts define chronic pain as pain that continues beyond two months. In actuality, chronic pain is determined more by our response to pain.

When most of our waking hours are spent trying to control or endure the pain, when we cannot work any longer because of it, when our relationships are torn apart by the stress of it, we have developed the chronic pain syndrome.

Patients are often frustrated with the way doctors treat them. Nevertheless, they need the expertise of a doctor to make the right decisions regarding treatment.

The first thing you need to find out on your way to recovery is to find out what kind of pain you have and to find the right health care provider.

A physician who has a comprehensive knowledge of pain and empathy would be the best choice. Many specialists are well trained in techniques of pain treatment, but if they do not really understand what you are going through as a person, you are missing out on a vital element in your recovery.

Once you have found the right health care provider, get your pain under control. Get into physical rehabilitation to recover your functional abilities. If need be, utilize some?support aids.

Use some type of communication therapy, like counseling or group therapy, to help you get over the emotional scars left by the pain.

Then, get back to work or at least go back to doing the things you used to enjoy.
