Be prepared to send a good production manager overseas for at least a year. This is a good way to validate manufacturing abroad. Are you spending enough to justify the costs of an expatriate worker? Is your employee well versed in international business?

Many U.S. firms meet a factory or a representative and quickly turn their production over to them. Beyond checking references, doing background checks and finding out all you can about the manufacturer, allow for plenty of relationship-building time. Malaysians (as well as many other cultures) will know you are versed in how they do business if you speak in the long term.

Romney & President in business word war

BOWLING GREEN, Oh - Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney lashed out at President Obama Wednesday for campaign comments made about entrepreneurs who have achieved business success.

"If you've got a business, you didn't build that.? Somebody else made that happen," Romney quoted the President as saying at a Virginia rally on Friday.? "What he's saying is if they built something, they didn't really built it.? It was the government that takes responsibility."

The comments came during a Town Hall Meeting at the Bowling Green Community Center in northwestern Ohio attended by an estimated 600 GOP supporters.? Romney spoke for 15 minutes, then took eight questions from audience members.

It was Romney's 13th campaign appearance in the Buckeye State and many more visits are expected before votes are cast in the fall.

The President's comment took center stage during the Romney rally.? He had men and women that started businesses stand and be recognized.? Many carried signs critical of the President's words.?? Romney had his own take on the matter.

"To say that means Steve Jobs didn't build Apple Computers, Bill Gates didn't grow MIcrosoft, Henry Ford didn't build the Ford Motor Company," he said.? "America's economy runs on freedom.? It is not driven by government.? It's driven by free people pursuing their dreams."

Romney again said President Obama has thrown a number of hurdles at businesses to keep them from growing.? Taxes are too high, there are too many regulations and it's tough for business owners to get credit.

"His policies have hurt job creation, not helped," he said.? "This is the height of foolishness.? He's out of touch.? He's out of ideas.? He's out of excuses and that's why in November we've got to get him out of office."

When it came time to outline what a Romney Administration would look like and what his agenda would contain, Romney repeated five areas he's mentioned several times before.

???? * Pay down the federal debt and balance the budget

???? * Make sure today's workers and kids in school have the skills they need

???? * Restore economic freedom

"This election about the soul of America is whether we're going to believe in an America that's dominated by government -- we're going to have a President that believes government is at the center of America, the nucleus of our economy, or whether we're going to have a President like me who believes in the vision of the Founding Fathers who gave us our rights and those rights include our freedom to pursue happiness as we choose."

The eight audience questions ranged from restoring the home construction market to the status of Social Security and Medicare for senior citizens.

One woman wanted to know who Romney was going to pick as the Vice-Presidential nominee because she wanted to make sure that person was a fiscal conservative who believed in the principles of the Tea Party.

"It will be a conservative who will believe in conservative principles," Romney said, adding he hasn't yet made up his mind on the choice.

Many media outlets reported Wednesday that Ohio U.S. Senator Rob Portman of Terrace Park will be the nominee.

A mother raised her hand and stood next to her son.? She said he created his own business that grew into a string of stores and many employees.

"Then in this awful economy Obama created, he had to lay off people and close stores," she said.? "The guy in The White House is a monster who has no business trying to destroy what my son created."

Romney replied that the Obama years have not been good for business with few exceptions -- one of them being if you're a large campaign contributor you might get a government guarantee or loan.

"If I'm President I'll go to work every day to make sure our economy comes back," he told the mother and son.

Answering a question about Social Security and Medicare, Romney said both are going to be there for senior citizens or those who have retired.? Then, he pointed to a pair of young children and said the programs won't exist for them until changes are made.

How to Organize & Contain Children's Toys, Books & Other Stuff ...

Toys, books, and other kid stuff make a home fun and playful. Yet sometimes, it can become too much stuff. It?s hard to manage it all and still give your children a fun atmosphere to live and play in.?

Today, as part of Zone Defense, contributor?Prerna shares some tips for Toy Management.

Ever wonder how kids? toys just seem to multiply and take over the house? Add books, sporting?equipment, board games and other random stuff to the mix, and we?re talking about BIG trouble.

Here are some tips to organize and contain children?s toys and stuff:

1. One In, One Out

We have this rule at our home where whenever we get a new toy, we look through the old?ones to see which one we can donate or give away. The same is true for books and clothes.

The one-in, one-out rule not only helps keep kiddie clutter under control but also make buying?decisions more thoughtful. Kids, especially kindergartners, tend to not want another toy when it?means they?ll have to give up one they already own. We call it the Buy Less, Give More rule.

?Mama, I want another doll?
?Sure, sweetie. Which one do you want to give away then??
?Umm? I wanna keep them all?
?Then, baby, you can?t have another doll. Because when a new doll comes in, one of your older?ones has to go to another baby.?
?Oh.. okay.. I no want then.?

2. Give Everything a Home

Yes, let kids know where things go by fixing a ?home? for them. Books in the shelf or cabinet,?toys where they belong and bags and sporting stuff on hooks. Make the ?homes? easy-to-access?so that kids, as young as they are, can easily put away their stuff when they?re done with it.

3. Think Creative for Small Toy Storage

Generally, the bane of our lives as moms is not the big toys but the small ones. You know, Lego?pieces, cars, dolls? clothes and so on. Get the small stuff organized using boxes or buckets,?Ziploc bags and even, egg cartons.

Empty egg cartons, for instance, hold my daughter?s dolls??accessories. Kid-sized, beach buckets are what we store her cars in. Keep the small toy clutter?under control and you?ll have a much neater room.

4. Use Toy and Book Rotation

Finally, and this again, is a biggie. Rotate toys and books. Don?t keep ALL the toys out ALL the?time always.

Have a stash in deep storage and bring it out every two weeks or maybe every month and put the old one away. Not only will this keep clutter under control but will also boost the novelty factor for kids. It keeps things fun without being out of control.

Economy appears weaker as retail sales slump | Business | Eugene ...

WASHINGTON (AP) - The outlook for the U.S. economy appeared dimmer Monday after a report that Americans spent less at retail businesses for a third straight month in June.

The report led some economists to downgrade their estimates for economic growth in the April-June quarter. Many now think the economy grew even less than in the first quarter of the year, when it expanded at a sluggish 1.9 percent annual rate.

Spending in June fell in nearly every major category - from autos, furniture and appliances to building, garden supplies and department stores. Overall, retail sales slid 0.5 percent from May to June, the Commerce Department said.

Retail sales hadn't fallen for three straight months since the fall of 2008, at the height of the financial crisis.

Stocks fell after the report was released. The Dow Jones industrial average sank 74 points in early trading. Broader indexes also declined. Later in the morning, stocks regained some of their losses.

"However hard you look, there's just no good news in this report at all," said Paul Ashworth, chief U.S. economist at Capital Economics.

Sales were still 4.7 percent higher in the April-June period than in the second quarter of 2011. And retail sales don't include spending on services, which represents a larger portion of the economy.

Still, Ashworth said overall economic growth likely slowed to an annual rate of just 1.5 percent in the second quarter. That's isn't enough to lower high unemployment. The U.S. unemployment rate is 8.2 percent.

In Monday's report, the Commerce Department also said Americans spent less in April than previously thought. In part because of that, Michael Feroli, an economist at JPMorgan Chase, lowered his estimate of growth in the April-June quarter from a 1.7 percent annual rate to a 1.4 percent rate.

Some of the sting of the retail sales report was eased by a separate Commerce report Monday that U.S. companies added to their stockpiles in May. When businesses step up restocking, they tend to order more goods, leading to more factory production and economic growth.

Some of the weak retail sales in recent months reflects falling gas prices. But even excluding sales at gas stations, retail spending fell 0.3 percent from May to June.

Consumers have grown less confident in the economy. Hiring has slumped and wages have barely kept pace with inflation, keeping budgets tight. As a result, consumers have pulled back on their spending, which drives 70 percent of economic activity.

"Recent weak jobs data have certainly done nothing to alter our view that consumer spending growth will be very modest at best in the quarters ahead," said Joshua Shapiro, chief U.S. economist at MFR Inc. "A silver lining in the economic clouds is that lower gasoline prices are helping to cushion the consumer."

The International Monetary Fund on Monday slightly lowered its outlook for global growth over the next two years. Europe's financial crisis and slower expansion in China and India have weakened the world economy.

The IMF predicts global growth of just 3.5 percent this year, down from its forecast of 3.6 percent in April. It says the U.S. will grow just 2 percent.

Still, factory activity in the New York region is growing at a slightly faster pace , according to a survey issued Monday. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York said its Empire State manufacturing index increased to 7.4 in July from a reading of 2.3 in June. Any number above zero indicates growth.

The retail spending report showed that sales at auto dealers - one of the economy's strongest areas this year - fell 0.6 percent from May to June. That's a gloomier assessment of the industry than earlier reports from automakers had suggested.

The automakers said sales rose 22 percent in June from the same month in 2011. But the automakers don't adjust their sales data for seasonal changes. And their figures reflect changes from the same month in the previous year, not from month to month.

The weakness in June extended well beyond auto sales. The Commerce report showed sales fell 0.7 percent at department stores and 1.6 percent at building supply stores. Sales at furniture stores and electronics and appliance stores both fell 0.8 percent.

Sales at gas stations dropped 1.8 percent after a 2 percent drop in May. The declines reflected cheaper gas, which has dropped more than 50 cents since early April.

The economy is expanding too slowly to lower the unemployment rate. Employers have created an average of just 75,000 jobs a month in the April-June quarter - only about a third of the monthly job growth during the previous three months.

Stalled Chinese warship taken off disputed shoal

MANILA, Philippines (AP) ? Chinese navy ships safely removed one of the country's warships Sunday from a disputed shoal off the western Philippines where it had run aground while on a security patrol and sparked fears of another maritime standoff in the South China Sea.

The warship will sail back to port with minor damage, and no crew member was injured, Chinese Embassy spokesman Zhang Hua said in a statement that suggested the vessel did not spill any oil.

The frigate got stuck Wednesday night on Half Moon Shoal, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the western Philippine province of Palawan, prompting China and the Philippines to send rescue ships there. Both countries were already locked in a tense dispute over another shoal off the northwestern Philippines.

The South China Sea is a flashpoint in diplomatic relations, with various Asian nations claiming whole or part of its islands and waters.

Philippine navy chief Vice Admiral Alexander Pama said at least six Chinese navy ships and vessels, along with smaller utility boats, helped refloat the stalled frigate. Filipino coast guard search and rescue vessels had been deployed near the scene to help if needed, he said.

The Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila said Saturday the Philippines was investigating the circumstances that led to the accident. The Philippine government on Sunday expressed relief that the delicate incident was over.

"We are glad to note that Chinese authorities have successfully extricated their stranded frigate" and will now return to China from the Philippines' exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, Philippine foreign affairs department spokesman Raul Hernandez said, referring to his country's 370-kilometer (230-mile) stretch of territorial waters recognized under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The Chinese frigate had apparently been sailing in Malaysian and Philippine waters before the accident, according to a Philippine military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Brig. Gen. Elmer Amon, deputy chief of the Philippine military's Western Command, said Filipino vessels would continue to monitor the shoal amid the continuing presence of Chinese navy ships in the area.

The shoal where the warship ran aground is called Hasa Hasa by the Philippines and claimed by China as part of the Nansha island chain, known internationally as the Spratlys. The Spratly islands are a major cluster of potentially oil- and gas-rich islands and reefs long disputed by China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei.

Chinese and Philippine officials are still negotiating an end to a tense maritime dispute over the Scarborough Shoal, about 700 kilometers (400 miles) away, which has been going on for more than three months. The Philippines has withdrawn its ships from Scarborough to ease tensions, but Chinese government surveillance ships have remained in the area.

Israel's richest rabbis become savvy businessmen

NETIVOT, Israel (AP) ? One summer night, on the outskirts of a sleepy desert town, a who's who of Israel's elite gathered for an annual feast to honor a rabbi whose gaze is said to pierce the soul.

He's Rabbi Yaacov Israel Ifargan. But he is better known as, simply, the X-ray.

Over the past few decades, he and dozens of other rabbis have carefully positioned themselves at the fulcrum of Israeli power and influence. They have attracted throngs of adherents ? most notably some of the country's top business moguls, who pay top shekel for an audience with their rabbi to solicit blessings and discuss business matters.

These magnates have helped fuel the rise of a rabbinic aristocracy whose members have channeled the donations they receive into multi-million-dollar empires. After gaining experience dishing out advice to Israeli tycoons, the rabbis have become shrewd businessmen themselves, managing hefty investments in stocks and real estate at home and abroad ? with much of their earnings allegedly kept far from the watchful eyes of Israeli tax collectors.

Their chief critic calls them swindlers and frauds, and some fellow rabbis are critical of their practices.

The Israeli edition of Forbes magazine published a first-of-its-kind ranking last month of Israel's 13 richest rabbis. In the number one spot was 36-year-old Rabbi Pinchas Abuhatzeira from Beersheba, a blue-collar southern desert city, whose wealth is estimated at $335 million. The X-ray rabbi placed sixth, with an estimated net worth of $23 million.

"Every single shekel brings about true peace," announced the X-ray rabbi's half brother, Rabbi Hayim Amram Ifargan, from the dais at the recent gathering, in a gentle nudge to the crowd of VIPs to continue their support.

He, too, is a part of the Ifargan family franchise. His spiritual adherents call him "The MRI." In the women's section behind a laced divider sat "The Arbitrator" or "The CT," Ifargan's millionaire sister Bruria Zvuluni, a go-to spiritual counselor who claims to have mediated feuds between Israeli crime kingpins. Though she is not a rabbi, she made it to the bottom of Forbes' list.

Cozying up at Ifargan's long table were lawmakers, one of Israel's top lawyers, and two of Israel's wealthiest businessmen: Menahem Gurevitch, chairman of a leading Israeli insurance company, and billionaire Nochi Dankner, head of Israel's largest holding company and a close confidant of Ifargan for the last 14 years. The Israeli army's chief rabbi and a top police commander were there, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent his blessings in a recorded video message.

Rabbis who make fortunes for themselves and encourage others to make money with their blessings draw the wrath of some fellow Jewish clerics.

"It's disappointing when religion descends to this," said Rabbi Donniel Hartman, president of the Shalom Hartman institute, a modern Orthodox Jewish learning center in Jerusalem. "It's not some channel of divine power for personal wealth accumulation. That's small religion."

Most rabbis in Israel are not raking in millions. They are instead salaried government employees, assigned by Israel's official rabbinate to perform religious rites for the Jewish public such as marriages and burials, or to enforce Jewish dietary laws in restaurants and hotels.

They are nowhere near the level of the high-flying spiritual gurus like the X-ray.

Such gurus set up public office hours in their homes to receive Israelis on all rungs of the social ladder, as long as they come with cash. In exchange, adherents receive amulets and little pieces of paper containing the rabbi's personalized blessing. The most successful rabbis have founded charitable institutions and small religious seminaries, which act as conduits for the incoming cash flow.

Menachem Friedman, an expert on Orthodox Judaism and professor emeritus at Bar Ilan University, says religious Jewish businessmen since the 19th century have solicited rabbis' blessings for cash to ensure their success ? though today the sums have reached unprecedented amounts.

"If the market is dangerous and shaky, the millionaires who benefit from that market have less confidence. They need these rabbis to give them that security," Friedman said.

The country's richest rabbinic dynasty is the Abuhatzeira family, scions of the revered Baba Sali who left Morocco for Israel in 1963, gaining a following among Israel's large Moroccan and Middle Eastern Jewish immigrant population. The Baba Sali died in 1984, but his portrait ? a shriveled face wrapped in a white shawl ? still graces the walls of Israeli homes, businesses and falafel stands.

His grandson, Rabbi Elazar Abuhatzeira, became the richest of them all, building himself a three-story villa said to include an events hall, deluxe guest rooms for important donors and an underground tunnel allowing him safe passage to his synagogue and office across the street, according to journalist Yossi Bar-Moha, who says he obtained the house plans from the Beersheba municipality.

Bar-Moha published a series of exposes in Israeli dailies accusing the rabbi of cheating his followers into believing he had no money in the bank, and violently threatening some to pay up.

The Israeli police's national fraud squad opened an investigation in the late 1990s, discovering $125 million in his personal account. He reportedly reached a settlement with Israel's tax authorities to pay a fraction of what he owed them.

Last year, a desperate adherent whose donations to the rabbi hadn't improved his lot stabbed Rabbi Abuhatzeira to death. His son, Rabbi Pinchas Abuhatzeira, inherited his wealth and his spot at the top of Israel's affluent rabbinic aristocracy.

"These rabbis are charlatans, swindlers and cheaters. They have no real knowledge. And people eat it up," said reporter Bar-Moha, who heads Tel Aviv's journalists' association.

An Israeli tax official, speaking anonymously because of the issue's sensitivity, said in the past two years tax authorities have approached some 20 religious figures, requesting earnings reports. Some rabbis have been investigated for tax fraud. No convictions are known, but some have reportedly reached settlements with Israeli tax authorities.

Reached for comment, advisers of some of the rabbis profiled by Forbes either would not comment on the income estimates, or said they were wrong but would not provide other figures. A spokesman for Rabbi Ifargan said his charitable institutions and received donations are above board.

At the end of the feast, adherents followed Rabbi Ifargan up a hill to pray at the hulking stone pyramid that houses his father's grave. Ifargan emerged from the tomb surrounded by paparazzi, bodyguards and a host of followers shouting out requests for the rabbi to pray for their health and for their children to find a good match.

When an Associated Press reporter asked the rabbi the secret to his success, Ifargan stopped. The 46-year-old rabbi with a pointed jet-black beard and brimmed hat fixed his gaze for a few moments, cocked his head up toward the heavens and shrugged.

Then his bodyguards whisked him into a black Mercedes-Benz, and they sped off.

Bills' Johnson drops rap called 'Run It Back'

Ever since the dawn of rap music, NFL players have done their best to try to enter it with their own unique flow and while some fail miserably, some actually do a decent job on the microphone.

The latest entry into the club comes to us from Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson who teamed up with popular rap artist ?The Game? to drops a new single called, ?Run It Back?.

Stevie uses the first two bars of the song to make clever puns on Shawn Merriman and Cam Newton celebratory dances as he drops smooth rhymes from his cell phone:

8 Ways to See Big Savings on Eyeglasses | Money Talks News

Last year, my mom bought her first pair of prescription glasses. She wasn?t sure what they should cost, so she simply bought the frames she liked the best. It wasn?t until after she picked up her new glasses that she called to tell me: She had paid $450 for Armani frames.

I think my reaction went something like, ?That?s crazy! Giorgio Armani would have had to make those glasses himself with gold-plated screws and diamond lenses to get me to pay $450!?

Then I found out I needed glasses myself. After my eye exam, I was presented with several rows of frames ? many costing well over $600. Even the ?bargain frames? cost around $200.

Clearly you can spend a ton on eyeglasses. But there?s good news: You can also save a ton. In the video below, Money Talks News founder Stacy Johnson?offers step-by-step instructions for saving up to 90 percent on prescription glasses. Check it out and then read on for more details?.

As Stacy showed in the video, my mom could have easily saved hundreds. And you can too. Here are more details?

1. See if you?re covered

Before you schedule an eye exam, check your insurance coverage. Many health insurance plans cover all or some of the cost of vision expenses. But unless you ask, you might not know. For example, my health insurance covers the cost of an annual eye exam ? and I wasn?t even aware I had vision coverage.

2. Make use of your FSA

Do you have a?flexible spending account? If you can get one through your employer, it should cover many vision services, like:

Eye exams
Prescription glasses and sunglasses
Tinting
Reading glasses
Contact lenses and solutions

If you?re already contributing to an FSA, use some of these funds to pay for your vision costs. If you?re not contributing to an FSA, do it the next opportunity you have. Since you can contribute money from your paycheck to your FSA before taxes are taken out, you?ll automatically save even more.

3. Start with an eye exam

Before you can buy prescription glasses, you?ll need two things: a prescription matching your vision needs, and your pupillary distance (the distance between your pupils). An optometrist can provide both. And thanks to something called the ?Prescription Release Rule,? they?re required by federal law to give you a copy of your prescription, enabling you to take it with you and shop wherever you?d like.

If you?re using vision insurance to offset the cost of the eye exam, make sure to visit a clinic covered by your insurance. If you?re using an FSA, call beforehand to find the cheapest option. For example, my local Walmart offered the cheapest deal I could find ? $100 per exam. You may also qualify for a free or reduced eye exam through volunteer or state-run programs. Eligibility varies, but FreeEyeExam.org has a list of free exams by state.

When you visit the optometrist, ask for a written copy of your prescription and your pupillary distance. Then see where the best deals are?

4. Warehouse clubs

Warehouse clubs sell prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses cheaper than many other brick-and-mortar retailers, and you?ll occasionally get even better prices. For example, right now Sam?s Club?is offering $40 off your second pair of prescription glasses for Plus members, and BJ?s Wholesale Club?has $20 off a complete pair. Check out?Costco?too.

5. Discount stores

As Stacy mentioned in the video, he picks up simple reading glasses from dollar stores. I buy mine from discount and overstock stores, and I?ve found some great deals. In fact, I just bought a three-pack of decent-looking reading glasses at TJ Maxx for $11.99 ? that breaks down to about $4 a pair.

You can find good deals on cheap reading frames all over town. Also check out?Ross,?Marshalls,?Big Lots, and Walmart.

6. Buy online for bigger discounts

You?ll most likely find the best deals on prescription eyeglasses online. Some sites offer basic frames with single-vision lenses and tinting for under $10. Here are a few sites that have gotten decent reviews from bloggers and others:

A word of warning: Some sites sell low-quality products, while others have horrible customer service. Before you buy a pair of glasses from a website, make sure they have a return policy and check out a complaint site like Ripoff Report or Complaint Wire to see if other customers have had problems. Also be aware that online stores are probably best for simpler, inexpensive prescriptions and for those customers requiring less personal service. The more complicated the prescription, the higher the cost, and therefore the risk, of buying online.

7. Take advantage of coupons and special offer deals

The Internet is full of product coupons, and eyeglasses are no different. Before you buy your next pair, use an online coupon site to find a better deal. The GlassyEyes blog regularly posts sales and special offer deals for online eyeglass retailers. You can also find coupons on sites like?The Optical Blog,?RetailMeNot, and?Slickdeals.

8. Find free repair or replacement deals

If your glasses get scratched or bent out of shape, be aware that some retailers offer free repair and/or replacement.
